Panagyuriste

If you are interested in the history of Bulgaria during the struggles for Liberty then visit the town which has turned into a symbol of the National struggle – Panagyurishte. Situated in a small valley in Sredna Gora, Panagyurishte has become the center of the revolutionary events. Here was organized a massive and operative revolutionary group by the apostles Volov and Benkovski.Ten kilometers to the north-west is located the historical countryside Oborishte where on April 14th, 1876 the revolutionary committee was summoned and the decision for the proclaiming the April uprising was made. The historical museum in Panagyurishte is entirely devoted to this glorious epoch of the Bulgarian history. In the Raina Knyaginya house-museum are located the bones of the great Bulgarian – the teacher Raina Popgeorgieva who sewed the flag-symbol of the revolutionary struggle on which are written the sacred words 'Freedom or Death. It is exhibited as an exponent, too.
